About this event
First Light is the opening gathering of the Murmur community: a simple evening for people who want more real connection in their lives. No panels, no pitches, no networking in the uncomfortable sense. Just a carefully chosen space, good company, and the kind of conversation that tends to happen when people slow down and pay attention to each other. We'll have light refreshments, a few prompts on the walls if you want them, and a lot of room to simply be present. Stay for the whole evening or drop in for an hour — both are welcome.
Who this is for
Anyone who's curious about building a more connected life in Austin. You don't need to know anyone coming in. You don't need to be outgoing. You just need to want to be there. We especially welcome people who are new to the city, going through transitions, or simply looking for community outside of work and screens.
What to expect
A relaxed room with warm lighting and unhurried conversation. Light food and non-alcoholic drinks provided; the venue has a cash bar for those who want it. We start gently at 7:00 PM with open mingling, move into a short optional group prompt around 7:30, and let the evening find its own shape from there. You won't be put on the spot. You won't be asked to introduce yourself to the whole room. The space closes at 10:00 PM. Most people stay.
Community space
How we hold this space
We hold this space with care. We ask that everyone here treat fellow guests with patience and genuine curiosity — whether you share their views or not. Listen to understand, not to respond. Give people room to be uncertain. Don't record or share photos of others without asking. Leave conversations better than you found them.
Consent & safety
Everyone at this gathering has the right to move freely, end conversations, and take space without explanation. No means no. Silence means ask again. If something doesn't feel right — for you or for someone near you — please find a member of the Murmur team (look for the small amber pin). We take concerns seriously and respond quietly and quickly. We reserve the right to ask anyone to leave if their presence is making the space feel unsafe.
Getting there
Accessibility
The Hearth Room is on the ground floor with step-free access from the street entrance. A single-stall, gender-neutral restroom is available on the same level. The space is moderately lit — warmer and quieter than a typical event venue, but not dim. If you have specific needs or questions about the space, please email us at hello@murmur.community before the event and we'll do our best to help.
Parking & transit
Street parking is available along S Congress Ave and side streets. The 10 bus stops half a block north — it's an easy walk.
Arrival
Doors open at 6:45 PM. Come whenever you're ready — there's no formal program until 7:30. Look for the warm light in the front window.
